One of Hollywood’s most popular and diverse leading men, high-flying star Ryan Reynolds comes down to Earth to memorably take charge of the role of Jeff Daniels’ lifelong imaginary superhero friend Captain Excellent in Paper Man.
An active presence both in films and television for nearly 20 years, Reynolds first gained worldwide recognition as the star of the TV show Two Guys and a Girl, along with making numerous guest appearances on other shows including Scrubs, The X-Files, My Boys, and The John Laroquette Show. Leading roles in major films quickly followed, beginning with his leading role in the cult favorite Van Wilder. Alternating between studio efforts and independent productions, his other films include the Hollywood hits Just Friends, Definitely Maybe, The Proposal opposite Academy Award-winner Sandra Bullock, Adventureland, The Amityville Horror, Blade: Trinity and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, for which he won a 2009 Best Supporting Actor Scream Award for his role of Deadpool. Amongst Reynolds’s acclaimed independent offerings are Waiting…, Chaos Theory, and The Nines. Nominated for four People’s Choice Awards, including Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Comedic Star, Reynolds is also active in raising funds and awareness for the fight against Parkinson’s Disease, a condition which afflicts his father.
Reynolds’s turn as a superhero in Paper Man—albeit an imaginary one—will undoubtedly be put to constructive use in his upcoming project as the title character in the comic-book epic Green Lantern, directed by Martin Campbell.
